Phytoplankton are breathtakingly beautiful, microscopically small, invisible to the naked eye, and they run the show in the worlds oceans. As a side effect of photosynthesis, they remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, produce every second breath we take, and fuel the oceans food webs. Here, we will explore the long-term effects of a changing climate on this foundation of our planet -and provide a glimpse into the life of scientists working at the interface of ecology and evolution.
